"Health benefits of chlorophyll? But, I thought that was a plant thing. What can this green pigment do for me?" Okay so you probably didn't say pigment but you know what I mean :)

If this is what you have been wondering, you are not alone. For most of us, chlorophyll is something that has everything to do with plants and nothing to do with humans.

However, research has recently uncovered that there are amazing health benefits of chlorophyll. So let's discuss some of these benefits.

However, first things first:

What is chlorophyll? Chlorophyll is the alkaline green pigment that facilitates photosynthesis (the process by which green plants absorb sunlight to convert carbon dioxide and water into sugar and oxygen) in plants.

So if you were to ingest this, what would it do for you?

Apart from becoming healthier and more energetic in general, you will find that it can:

Increase the quantity of red blood cells and purify your blood - With an increase in the quantity and purity of your red blood cells, there will be an increase in the quantity of oxygen being transported to the other cells in your body. With the increased oxygen, the cells in your body would have more energy to carry out all their functions.

Act as an antiseptic - Because of its oxygen producing capability, it can act as an antiseptic in the case of any infections or burns. No bacteria will grow because of the oxygen-filled environment. In some cases, it is also known to numb pain.

Detoxify your body - Again, because of its oxygen production, chlorophyll helps detoxify the body by reducing the toxins in the colon and purifying the liver. It also neutralizes the airborne pollutants you breathe in. This makes it especially good for smokers.

Act as a deodorizer - In fact, it is a well known remedy for body odor and bad breath. Many toothpastes and chewing gums have it as one of their main components.

These are some of the benefits, there's more:

Chlorophyll can do these things and more because it contains essential metals, vitamins, protein and minerals such as Magnesium, Iron, Calcium, Vitamins A, C, E, K and Folic acid just to mention a few, which are required to build and repair red blood cells. By receiving the necessary oxygen levels in your body, your immune system also gets a boost!

Where can you find great sources of chlorophyll? Green vegetables such as broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage, celery, green beans, peas, parsley, kale, spinach, and wheatgrass are just some of the excellent sources.

Now that you understand the numerous health benefits of chlorophyll, get started on a chlorophyll plan in your diet and reap all the benefits of this green plant matter today!
